IMPORTANCE OR USES OF JOB ANALYSIS IN HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT
Job Analysis has become an essential and important part of a
sound Human Resources Development Programme. The importance of Job Analysis in
Human Resource Development may be summarised as under:
1. Basis of Job Evaluation:
Job Analysis provides a basis for
Job Evaluation. Job Evaluation determines the relative and comparative worth of
the jobs which in turn helps in determining remuneration for different types of
jobs. An accurate and specific job description provides an important base for
evaluating the worth of different jobs.
2. Helpful in Vocational Selection:
This analysis helps in
the process of vocational selection also. It helps in determining how
many and what kinds of workers are required for different jobs and what are qualifications required for them.
3. Helpful in Manpower Planning:
Job Analysis is very useful
in manpower planning also. It determines the demands of jobs in terms of
responsibilities and duties. These responsibilities may be called in terms of
skills, qualities and other attributes. The process of Job Analysis determines
the quantum of work, which can easily be performed by an average person on a
job in a day. Thus, Job Analysis is an essential element of manpower planning.
4. Helpful in Recruitment, Selection and Placement:
The
first and foremost function of Personnel Management is the procurement of the right
persons for the right jobs. For procuring the right persons for the right jobs, Human
Resource Manager must have full knowledge about the jobs for whom the persons
are to be appointed.
5. Helpful in Training and Development Programmes:
Job Analysis determines the level of the standard required
for the performance of a particular job. This information can be used by those
who are responsible for administrating the training and development programmes.
They may determine and prepare training and development programmes. They may
prepare employees for specific jobs so that the employees may get the
knowledge and skills required to perform the jobs assigned to them.
6. Helpful in Wages and Salaries Administration:
Job
Analysis provides a comparative study of different jobs and ascertains the
qualities and qualifications required for these jobs. Differentiation of jobs
leads to deciding the salaries and wages of all the workers and the employees.
7. Helpful in Appraisal and Performance:
Job Analysis provides a standard of performance for every job. The result of the actual performance of employees may be collected and compared with these standards so that the performance of all the employees may be objectively appraised.
8. Helpful in Job Designing:
Industrial engineers may use
the technique of Job Analysis in job designing because the technique of Job
Analysis helps in determining job elements. It helps in conducting time and
motion studies, work specifications, methods, and the measurement of the work.
9. Helpful in Assuring Safety and Health:
The technique of
Job Analysis warns the management against possible hazards and unhealthy
environments and can take corrective measures to minimise the chances of these risks
so that the safety of workers may be ensured.
10. Helpful in Discipline:
Job Analysis is helpful in
maintaining discipline also. It sets the standard for performance for all employees. These employees know in advance, what they have to achieve. Thus,
they work in a disciplined manner. Besides the technique of Job Analysis studies
the problem of indiscipline and also
helps in maintaining discipline in all jobs.
